SPE/IADC Drilling Conference 2017

The SPE/IADC Drilling Conference and Exhibition was held in Hague between 14-16 Mar 2017. This is the leading annual drilling event and DrillWell was represented at the conference with as many as five presentations.

Eric Cayeux from IRIS talked about automatic drilling friction tests in his presentation "Challenges and Solutions to the Correct Interpretation of Drilling Friction" (SPE 184657), which was based upon results from DrillWell-project "Drilling process optimization".

Benoit Daireaux from IRIS talked about automated quantitative risk analysis for drilling operations plans in his presentation "Use of Quantitative Risk Analysis Methods to Determine the Expected Drilling Parameter Operating Window Prior to Operation Start: Example from two Wells in the North Sea" (SPE 184693), which was also based upon results from DrillWell-project "Drilling process optimization".

Jan Ole Skogestad from SINTEF talked about well control and how to predict gas loading in drilling fluids in his presentation "Predicting Gas Loading Capability in Oil-based Drilling Fluids" (SPE 184710), which was based upon results from DrillWell-project "Well control simulator".

Harald Linga from SINTEF presented experimental results on gas influx into drilling fluids in his presentation "Gas Influx info Drilling Fluids during Flow Check Operations as Affected by Gas Absorption Characteristics of the Drilling Fluid" (SPE 184686), which was based upon results from DrillWell-project "Gas in oil-based mud".

Alv-Arne Grimstad from SINTEF presented experimental results on degassing from drilling fluids during depressurisation in his e-poster "Degassing Rate of Drilling Fluid Base Oils as Exposed to Depressurisation and Drill String Rotation" (SPE 184707), which was also based upon results from DrillWell-project "Gas in oil-based mud".

There were several other interesting presentations as well, especially within cementing, zonal isolation and P&A.
