New PhD in DrillWell

Fatemeh Moeinikia has successfully defended her thesis "Rigless P&A Technology Availability and Cost Effectiveness of Rigless P&A Operations”.

Moeinikia defended her thesis at the University of Stavanger on August 10.

Cost efficiency in P&A
To improve the cost efficiency for P&A operations, a combination of rig-based and rig-less technologies can be employed. Moeinikia's project reviews potentials of light well intervention vessels (LWIV) for subsea well P&A. Correct estimation of cost and time is important for budgetary planning of well abandonment. In her thesis, she discusses how to structure the probabilistic modeling in line with Oil and Gas UK Guideline for cost and time estimation of P&A operation.

Acting as opponents were Dr. Antonio Lage from Petrobras (Brazil), Dr. Eng. Malene Sandøy from Conocophillips (Stavanger) and Associate Professor Jan Aage Aasen from the University of Stavanger.

Moeinikia's supervisors have been Professor Kjell Kåre Fjelde (University of Stavanger), Professor II Arild Saasen (University of Stavanger) and Dr. Torbjørn Vrålstad (SINTEF).

Moeinikia is the third PhD student related to DrillWell to finish her doctorial. On August 30, PhD student Kanokwan Kullawan will defend her thesis, and several more students are close to the finishing line. It is positive to see so many PhDs contributing to the research in DrillWell.
