GREAT RESULTS AT DRILLBOTICS 2017

22.08.2017

It was a very close race in the final. The winning team from Texas A&M University was closely followed by DrillWell partners Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and University of Stavanger (UiS).

The group of students at University of Stavanger has been co-supervised by IRIS personnel as part of the DrillWell project “Drilling Process Optimization”.

"This is a competition that requires both theoretical and practical knowledge. The two universities that collaborate with DrillWell came in 2nd and 3rd in competition with major universities in the U.S and Germany. This shows the high competence level among the DrillWell partners",  says a happy Jan Einar Gravdal, Senior Research Scientist at IRIS.

Drillbotics is an international competition for universities to design and build a small drilling rig that uses sensors and control algorithms to automously drill a rock sample provided by SPE's Drilling Systems Automation Technical Section (DSATS).
